Support The Downed Animal and Food Safety Protection Act
One would think that government regulations might somehow protect animals in the agribusiness that are too weak to stand or even hold their heads up. But, this is absolutely not the case.
Now, and for many years, animals that are "downed" - unable to stand on their own - have been offered zero reprieve. They are sent for slaughter just like the rest of the unlucky lot.
But, if the newly proposed bill, The Downed Animal and Food Safety Protection Act, is passed, sick pigs, cows and other farmed animals may have a different future.
Aside from the inherent issue of humanity is the question of food safety. And, many say that sick animals such as these pose a threat to the safety of the meat.
Tell your US Senators to endorse this bill (H.R. 3704) that could protect sick and disabled farmed animals that cannot help themselves.
We the undersigned are writing to ask that you urgently support The Downed Animal and Food Safety Protection Act. This newly proposed legislation could mean a great deal to sick and disabled farm animals and also to public health safety.
One would think that government regulations might somehow already protect animals in the agribusiness that are too weak to stand or even hold their heads up. But, unfortunately, this is not the case and now is the time to do something about that.
Now, and for many years, animals that are "downed" - unable to stand on their own - have been offered zero reprieve. They are sent for slaughter just like the rest of the unlucky lot and we need to change this inhumane treatment once and for all.
If the newly proposed bill is passed, sick pigs, cows and other farmed animals may have a different future. You can do something about this.
Aside from the inherent issue of humanity is the question of food safety. And, the slaughter of sick animals such as these pose serious public health concerns.
Please urgently endorse this bill (H.R. 3704) and protect sick and disabled farmed animals that cannot help themselves.
