Uganda's lawmakers are once again threatening to pass the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, legislation that, if left unaltered, could mandate the death penalty for "repeat offenders" and start a witch-hunt for LGBTs in the country.
In its current draft form the bill demands:
*A 7-year jail sentence for consenting adults who have gay sex;
*A life sentence for people in same-sex marriages;
*Extradition and prosecution of LGBT Ugandans living abroad;
And much more.
LGBT Ugandans need you! Sign below and demand International World Leaders call on the Ugandan Parliament to abandon this monstrous bill!
Dear World Leaders,
We the concerned Care2 community write to you today to ask that you speak out against Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009, legislation that in its current draft form would mandate the death penalty for repeat offenders of so-called "aggravated homosexuality."
The bill is seeing renewed support from Uganda's lawmakers with Uganda's Parliamentary Speaker Rebecca Kadaga telling the AP that she and other MPs wants to make the bill law as a "Christmas gift."
Beyond the "Kill the Gays" mandate, the legislation would also break with all international human rights commitments and allow authorities in Uganda to arrest and charge people for "offenses" like "attempted homosexuality" and for not denouncing loved ones or friends if they are gay.
This legislation cannot be allowed to come into force.
We know that international pressure can and has stopped this bill in the past.
Please use your voice to urge Uganda to abandon this monstrous legislation!
