Get Rid of the "U Plus 2" Law In Fort Collins

The "U Plus 2" law in Fort Collins, Colorado states that no more than 3 unrelated adults are allowed to live together. It allows the following scenarios: a family (of any size), a family (of any size) and their nanny, a family (of any size) and an exchange student, two single parents, their kids, and a friend, or two siblings and one friend. It does not allow these scenarios: two couples, two brothers and their 2 friends, a family (of any size), a caretaker, and an exchange student, or more than three unrelated people living together.

This law negatively impacts the 25,000 students attending CSU. Paying rent is hard enough for college students normally, and it only makes it worse that they cant split the cost with more people. It also makes it difficult to find suitable housing because most houses near campus have 4 or 5 bedrooms, and those would remain unfilled. Fort Collins makes its income off of all of these students and it is unfair to them to force them to either break the law or pay unneccessarily high rent payments.

People should sign this petition to show the fact that this law does not sit well with us Fort Collins college students, and hopefully, in the end, we can get this unfair law abolished.
