Crimes against the badgers is a continuing issue, despite past efforts to stop these culls through other petitions but we can’t give up the fight to protect these animals throughout southwest England. The UK government believes that the spread of bovine tuberculosis (bTB) is due as stated “Bovine TB is mainly spread into new herds through the movement of infected cattle that have not been detected,” but farmers believe it is the badger that is responsible for the spread of the disease. Instead of looking into better testing and prevention of the bTB, these animals are a target of a cull as a method of prevention, which is documented not true. Despite efforts to stop the badger cull, the killing of the animals continues. But PETA and other authorities have noted that the badger cull is proven ineffective. The Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) states that their data suggests that 98.4 percent of badgers pose absolutely no risk for the contamination and spread of the TB. These animals pose a very minimal risk to public health, due to milk pasteurization and the TB surveillance and control programs in cattle.
In addition to these facts, these animals are supposed to be a legally protected species and illegal in the killing of these animals. Despite all past efforts to stop the killing of these animals, we are encouraging for more diligent action in stopping the cull of these protected animals that have been proven safe and no health risk as originally thought. You can lend your support by signing and sharing this petition as we attempt to save the badgers from the current ill-fate they face.
