Stop Feeding Growth-Promoting Drugs to Chickens!
Footage from an undercover investigation of a New Zealand chicken meat factory shows that chickens are suffering deformities from what they are being fed. The factory's birds, which are sold to a number of supermarkets, are so large they are barely able to walk. Animal welfare group SAFE claims the chickens are being fed deadly doses of growth promoters, which cause them to grow unnaturally fast. This places a strain on their lungs and heart, and some chickens die prematurely due to the treatment.
Poultry Industry Association director Michael Brooks viewed the footage and said the factory was unacceptable. According to Brooks, growth promoters are banned in New Zealand and shouldn't be in use. SAFE, however, believes the drugs are being used and wants the Government to act. Please sign the petition to convince the New Zealand Government to test factories for growth hormone use and seriously enforce rules to protect chickens from growth-promoting drugs.
