Your support is needed to ensure that Bill 2010-0234, the 'Police Reporting and Accountability Bill,' will pass! Please join us in calling upon the Pittsburgh City Council Members, Mayor Ravenstahl, Public Safety Director Huss, and Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Chief Harper to support and enact Pittsburgh City Council Bill 2010-0234.
A volunteer group of professional and lay law enforcement experts and concerned citizens have worked in collaboration with Councilman Burgess since that time to draft an amended version of Bill 2010-0234 – the Police Reporting and Accountability Bill - expanding the reporting requirements and strengthening policies effecting off-duty police behavior and other areas of City law enforcement policy.
Dear Mayor Ravenstahl, City Council Members, Public Safety Director Huss and Pittsburgh Police Bureau Chief Harper and Pittsburgh Police Officers: We, the undersigned residents of and visitors to the City of Pittsburgh, urge you to support and enact the Police Reporting & Accountability Bill.
Bill 2010-0234, as amended, will ensure that the public has the information needed to improve mutual respect between the community and the police and, thereby, significantly reduce the crime rate in the City of Pittsburgh. It also addresses the burden on taxpayers from monetary settlements of police misconduct complaints.
Bill 2010-0234 as amended will be introduced in City Council Wednesday June 15, 2011, 10 am. Your support for this bill will be an important step in making the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police an organization that will live up to, and can be held accountable for, fulfilling its stated mission - to %u201Cprotect and serve%u201D the residents and people in the City of Pittsburgh %u2013 and making this a more livable city for all the people of Pittsburgh.
Thank you for considering this landmark in community-police relations!
