We have written this petition in response to a video depicting your local festival honoring general-deity Doan Thuong. In this video, you watch
a live pig get splay-tied and brutally sliced in half before the crowd rubs money in its gushing blood. While we understand this act is an intimate aspect of your tradition - and we respect that - we must also ask you to reconsider tradition in the light of a modernized world that's redefining the ethical treatment of animals.
Tradition should not involve the prolonged suffering of a sentient and intelligent animal! Surely you can find a substitute for this pig. Your deity will not be offended by your decision to spare an animal. We urge you to at least watch the video, listen to the pig's squeals of terror, and imagine yourself in the same situation.
