UPDATE - NWF has ended this partnership with Scotts/Monsanto, which is the good news. The bad news is that they only did it because of bad press coming from Scotts, not out of concern for environmental issues. So, this petition will remain live and will still be delivered to NWF to let them know that we won't ever accept them partnering with pesticide companies, or any toxic companies at all, in the future.
--
The National Wildlife Federation, which claims that they "work to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children's future" have partnered with Scotts Miracle-Gro, the maker of pesticides, weed killers, and genetically-modified grass seed. The company makes Miracle-Gro and Ortho, while their Roundup brand is marketed in North America and most of Europe by Scotts and owned by Monsanto.
Roundup has been the subject of discussion amongst scientists with research showing negative environmental impacts caused by glyphosate, the main ingredient. How does that co-exist with the message of the NWF that they wish to be seen "sustaining the nature of America for the benefit of people and wildlife?" Just last year, 28 different environmental and health organizations demanded an end to a partnership between Major League Baseball and Scotts Miracle-Gro - yet NWF, an environmental organization, has seen it fit to partner with them.
One cannot "protect wildlife for our children's future" while simultaneously partnering with a company making products which destroy wildlife. Join us in telling NWF that this partnership should be ended, and please spread the word of this petition on Facebook and Twitter. Thank you!
We the undersigned request that the National Wildlife Federation end its partnership with Scotts Miracle-Gro and Monsanto. As an organization dedicated to inspiring Americans to protect wildlife for our children's future, it would seem implausible that your mission could co-exist with a company like Scotts, maker of pesticides, herbicides, and genetically-modified seeds.
Please reconsider this partnership and return to your mission of protecting our natural world. Your supporters want you to do the right thing, not surrender your principles in exchange for a shady partnership.
Thank you.
