Set Up A National DNA Database To Find Stolen Babies
- by: Judy Molland

As many as 300,000 babies could have been stolen and trafficked in Spain, between the 1930s and 1990.
During that time, thousands of Spanish mothers were told just after they had given birth that their newborns had died. But most of them hadn't died, but were instead taken by doctors, nurses and priests to be given or sold to other families. The practice began under General Franco, when parents were deemed "undesirable," but continued years later when parents were considered morally or economically deficient.
The scandal is closely linked to the Catholic Church, who were deeply involved.
Please sign out petition, asking the Spanish government to quickly set up a national DNA database, as they have promised, so that the children and families can be given some answers.
We the undersigned,
Are deeply concerned to read that as many as 300,000 babies could have been stolen from their biological mothers in Spain, between the 1930s and 1990.
During that time, thousands of Spanish mothers were told just after they had given birth that their newborns had died. But most of them hadn't died, according to a BBC documentary, but were instead taken by doctors, nurses and Roman Catholic priests to be given or sold to other families.
Now these children and their parents are desperate to find the truth. The first few matches have been made between the "stolen children" and their biological mothers, but there are potentially thousands more.
The Spanish government has promised to set up a national DNA database to speed this process, but has so far not fulfilled its promise.
Please move quickly to set up this national DNA database, so that children and parents can get some answers.
Thank you for your time in reading this letter.
