Ecuador's Yasuni National Park is being threatened by oil drilling. According to an article by the BBC, the government of Ecuador needs to raise $100 million in order to protect the Yasuni National Park by using alternative and less damaging sources of energy. If it doesn't reach its goal, the government will open the Yasuni National Park to oil companies.
This park has been affectionately named the "lungs of the world" as it covers 3,860 square miles of jungle, rivers and swamps. If the government of Ecuador allows oil to be drilled, the rainforest, the people and all the species that depend on the park will be ruined and destroyed.
Please tell the government of Ecuador that they must do everything they can to protect this vital park.
We the undersigned ask that the government of Ecuador protect the Yasuni National Park and not allow oil drilling to happen. As the Yasuni National Park has been named the “lungs of the world”, it is imperative that we do everything to protect this vital park. Many people, plant and animal species depend on the park and their survival is of utmost importance. If oil companies are allowed into the park, they will destroy and devastate the rainforest and many rivers and swamps.
Please protect the Yasuni National Park and show the world the importance of preserving and protecting the rainforest.
Thank you.
