Preserve Malaekahana and Gunstock Ranch Ag Land
- by: Grassroots Support!!
- recipient: Preserve and protect Gunstock Ranch Agricultural lands from being urbanized
With this petition we show that we are opposed to the "Envision Laie" proposal to develop over 1200 residential dwellings, large shopping centers, and mass suburban sprawl on zoned agricultural land at Gunstock Ranch. I believe it would further destroy the natural resources, boundaries, country character, scenic beauty, and the rural atmosphere of the entire region. The "Envision La'ie" development does not follow the mandates of the Ko'olauloa Communities Sustainability Plan, which is designed to preserve the rural character of the region and maintain clear boundaries between existing communities. A major development in the Ko'olauloa area would deeply impact the entire island, diminish the open spaces of our recreational, cultural, and agricultural lands, while creating enormous problems such as waste management, water supply, traffic, and affordability in the local community.
Therefore, I urge the Ko'olauloa Neighborhood Board, the La'ie Community Association, the Public Advisory Committee, City Council, and the City and County Department of Planning and Permitting to protect and preserve Gunstock Ranch and the Malaekahana region, and deny HRI's request for an exemption ("admendment") to the Sustainable Communities Plan.
