Do not make the same mistake that was made among primitive races
The 64nd IWC Conference takes place soon and you can raise your voice against reintroduction of commercial whaling. And thus decide on the survival or extinction of entire species of whales.
Before this important event we would therefore like to draw your attention on some arguments, that you should take into consideration before you make your decision.
Whales and dolphins live in complex societies with one another and have intellectual capabilities which are very similar to those of humans. You can look up this in the article of Lori Marino [Cetaceans Have Complex Brains for Complex Cognition http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1868071/ ].
Same time, the article shows that the exploration of these marine mammals is far away from being completed yet. This necessarily implies the question of whether or not we have a moral obligation to save these creatures from extinction. Just because we don’t understand or recognize, that whales and dolphins live in a specific form of society and own a specific intelligence, we have no right to deprive them of their right to exist.
The behavior of the only economically motivated whalers reminds of the european colonialists of 15th to 18th century. They regarded the so-called savages more as animals than people, disputed their right of existence without asking why their way of live was different from European and what benefits the lifestyle of indigenous peoples held in their environment.
Meanwhile we know more about primitive races, and no educated person would deny them the right to their own traditional way of life. Quite the contrary we know now, that we can profit of the primitives knowledge.
If we assume now that societies differ from one another, each of which, however, has a right to existence, we must save Whales and dolphins on which we know so little from complete extinction.
Ultimately, any species holds the ecosystem of our planet in equilibrium. The only exception is the human being.
It’s time to start thinking about that!
It's your voice that decides!
