Expand the Evacuation Zone to 200 Kilometers NOW
The creation of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants was an act of irresponsibility on the part of the Japanese government and the Tokyo Electric Power Corporation (TEPCO). It was not only an act of irresponsibility, it was also undemocratic, and furthermore a crime against humanity. Now, the Japanese government creates an evacuation zone of only 20 kilometers from an accident that is not only on par with the Chernobyl accident, but may very well surpass it. This is also an act of irresponsibility enacted for the sole purpose of reducing the amount of compensation that will and should be paid out to the victims of this disaster. Hence, if the government says it is safe, when people get sick -- and they will -- they will claim it is not due to the nuclear fallout. Volunteers who are going into help the victims of the earthquake and nuclear accident are now also being unnecessarily exposed to radiation due to this 20 kilometer evacuation zone. A better solution would be to expand the evacuation zone to 200 kilometers. This would reduce the amount of radioactive exposures to both the victims and the volunteers. Hence, this petition calls on the Japanese government and TEPCO to act more responsible and to also take responsibility.
