In February of 2005 while attending a conference promoting social security reform with "regular" citizens in Nebraska, President Bush had a brief conversation with a woman named Mary Mornin. Mornin informed the president that she was a divorced mother of three, which included a mentally challenged son. The president made a statement about social security saying 'the promises made will be kept by the government.' The rest of the conversation went as follows:
MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute.
THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs?
MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.
THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)
So I am writing this petition challenging George .W. Bush to take on the life of an "average" American for one month. I am asking for him to work two or three minimum wage paying jobs, take in three foster children as is own, drive a twenty year old rotting car(preferably a gas guzzler), and pay for gas to get to his two or three jobs that happen to be thirty to forty miles away from his very small very budgeted living quarters.
With the money from the three minimum wage jobs he needs to make enough to pay for that months food, gas, rent for that month, car insurance, utilities, any medical emergencies that may happen with the children, car repairs if need be, school supplies for the kids, clothing for the kids, and anything else that may come up in that months time. I want to see him do this and have all the bills paid at the end of the month with no outside help.
I know the probability of him ever agreeing to such a reality is slim to never. However I had to put it out there. So I want to see how many people would like to stand by me and challenge him. Lets challenge him to live in our shoes!!
We the undersigned would like for you to live the "simple life" for one month. We want you to put yourself into the shoes of the majority of the American people. We are hoping this experience will open your eyes to what it's really like to live in the United States today as an average citizen.
Thank you for taking time to read this.
