Contaminated Water is Killing Children at a Faster Rate, But Vaccines to Help Are Running Low

Cholera is a deadly infection that spreads through dirty water and food, and it kills hundreds of thousands of people worldwide every single year - including young children.

And now, these infections - as well as the associated deaths - are on the rise. That could all be prevented, since there is a highly effective vaccine for cholera. But right now, there simply aren't enough doses of the vaccine to go around.

As powerful leaders around the world, we are asking the governments of the U.S., E.U., and China to prioritize scaling up the production of these life-saving vaccines. Sign the petition now!

Cholera can present with extremely painful symptoms prior to advanced stages and death. These symptoms can include vomiting, severe cramps, shock, and dehydration. These are excruciating for anyone to experience, but they're especially difficult to comprehend and endure as a young child.

Right now, only one manufacturer produces vaccines to prevent cholera, and other potential manufacturers are still in the process of preparing to enter the market with their own vaccines. On top of that, governments must also focus on clean water efforts to prevent more infectious outbreaks in the future.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently sounding the alarm and has released an appeal urging all "vaccine manufacturers, governments, donors and partners to prioritize an urgent scale-up of vaccine production, and to invest in all the efforts needed to prevent and control cholera." We must emphasize and amplify this plea!

No one should have to die from a preventable and treatable illness. Everyone deserves clean water - and everyone also deserves access to these life-saving vaccines. Sign the petition to urge the governments of the U.S., E.U., and China to partner with manufacturers and speed up production of cholera vaccines!
